Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide the preservice teachers with the basic concepts of algebra, binary operations, group, cosmos, ring, ideal, object, homomorphism, isomorphism, automorphism, and to develop their operational and conceptual skills related to these concepts.

Course Content

Binary operations. Group definition and basic features. Subgroups, permutation groups, cyclic groups, uniform n-gene symmetry group, cyclic permutations, single and double permutations. Homomorphisms, cosmetics and Lagrange's theorem. Isomorphism theorems. The effect of a group on a cluster. Rings, lower rings and ideals. Prime and maximal ideals. Ring homomorphisms. Arithmetic in rings, polynomial rings, objects. Burnside theorem and its applications, p-groups and related theorems, A_n simplicity for n> 4.
