Objectives of the Course

To provide preservice teachers to understand the mathematical errors, difficulties and misconceptions, to be aware of the common misconceptions and to produce solutions for them.

Course Content

Mathematical error, difficulty and misconception; Misconception types; The common misconceptions associated with numbers concepts in the literature; Geometric concepts and common misconceptions related to these concepts in the literature; Algebra and the common misconceptions associated with algebra in the literature; Common misconceptions related to measurement in the literature; Common misconceptions related to statistics in the literature

Learning Outcomes
1. Understand mathematical error, difficulty and misconception.
2. Know mathematical concepts and the common misconceptions associated with these concepts in literature.
3.Apply the techniques of questioning to reveal the secondary school students' thinking processes.
4.Produce solutions for misconceptions according to subject's properties and students' individual differences
5. Suggest a research model of common misconceptions that can be deduced in secondary school mathematics.
