Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach breastfeeding, breast milk and understanding the importance of breastfeeding, breastfeeding problems and finding solutions, listening and individuals to increase self-confidence and assurance in vaccination for mothers to provide knowledge to be able to advise.

Course Content

What is breast milk and breastfeeding, why breast milk and breastfeeding are important, changes in the breast during pregnancy and physiology of milk production and flow, how to breastfeed, baby friendly initiative in the world and in Turkey, national breastfeeding indicators, local breastfeeding status health practices, counseling skills, counseling and support during pregnancy, birth process and breastfeeding, The importance of skin-to-skin contact (kangaroo care), practices that support breastfeeding, evaluating breastfeeding, taking breastfeeding history, monitoring the breastfed baby and inadequate milk, breast-related problems, breastfeeding mother's health, expressing milk from the breast, inadequate milk, baby-friendly 10 recommendations and health practices, complementary feeding, increasing breast milk, restarting breastfeeding.

Learning Outcomes
1. To be able to explain the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding
2.To be able to explain the benefits of breast milk and breastfeeding for the health of both mother and baby
3. To be able to explain the the effects of culture, values, beliefs and traditional practices on breastfeeding
4.To be able to count the breastfeeding rates and problem centers in our country
5.To be able to define the concept and approach to successful breastfeeding
6.To be able to demonstrate positive attitude and behavior in breastfeeding consulting services.
7.To be able to explain the role of midwives in consultation with Breastfeeding
8.To be able to evaluate the breastfeeding process of a breastfeeding mother
9.To be able to discuss the difficulties encountered in breastfeeding and how to overcome them and to provide care
10.To be able to provide breastfeeding counseling
