Objectives of the Course

Student know the historical development of the midwifery, professional values and philosophy, the duties, powers and responsibilities, ethical rules and principles, to obtain information about the Codes of Ethics in Midwifery, identify ethical problems and solutions and to develop a proposal.

Course Content

During the course, students have got knowledge about historical development of midwifery, professional values and philosophy, the duties, powers and responsibilities, ethical rules and principles, to obtain information about the Codes of Ethics in Midwifery, identify ethical problems and proposed solutions to improve their skills and obtain relevant information provided is given.

1.To be able to explain the concepts of midwifery and deontology
2.To be able to explain the historical development of the international midwifery profession
3.To be able to explain the historical development of the midwifery profession in Turkey
4.To be able to list/explain the legal regulations related to the midwifery profession
5.To be able to list/explain the professional framework of midwifery
6.To be able to list the characteristics of being a profession and to evaluate the midwifery profession in terms of the criteria for being a profession
7.To be able to explain the philosophy and professional characteristics of the midwifery profession
8.To be able to explain the place and responsibilities of the midwife within the health team
9.To be able to explain the concepts of rights and values, to list human rights, women's rights, children's rights and patient rights
10.To be able to list the historical development of the science of ethics/deontology
11.To be able to state ethical principles, ethical theories and theorists
12.To be able to list and explain ethical problems, ethical codes in midwifery and ethical decision-making methods
13.To be able to explain the malpractice situation, its results and prevention methods
14.To be able to list and Developing a solution proposal
15.Recognizing neglect and abuse of mother and baby, developing a solution
