The aim of this course is to teach how to analyze, interpret, and report findings from health-related data using statistical methods and computer-assisted statistical software.
The course includes: Introduction and objectives of the course, Introduction to biostatistics and basic concepts, SPSS software package, installation and menus, Types of scientific research, Stages of scientific research, Determining the research topic related to health, Writing research questions and objectives, Types and sources of health data, Preparing data collection forms, Variable definition, Data collection methods, Entering sample data sets, Data coding and editing, Identifying missing data, Entering data into SPSS, Basic statistical concepts, Descriptive statistics, Basic analyses in health research, Creating frequency tables, Preparing and interpreting graphs, Statistical hypotheses, Significance level (p-value), Sample size (number of subjects in groups), Statistical tests and their characteristics, Deciding on statistical tests, Introduction to parametric tests, Independent and dependent groups, Non-parametric tests, Relationship analyses, Regression analysis, Applications in health data, Simple linear regression analysis, Reporting findings, Table, graph and text consistency, Reporting analysis results.
