Objectives of the Course

During the course, students will learn drugs which are the most important equipments to provide health care. They will also gain an overview of the immediate necessities of medicines as well as their use in everyday practice. They will be provided to reach the knowledge level, necessary for learning pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of drugs affecting organ systems, reducing the toxicities, interactions and adverse effects of drugs and improving public health.

Course Content

Basic concepts in pharmacology, pharmacological properties, side effects and toxicity of drugs effective on tissue and organ systems are included in the course. While introducing medicines in accordance with the midwifery education program, appropriate information is given for their practical use.

Learning Outcomes
1.Can comprehend the fundamental concepts of pharmacology; its field and branches; the principles and objectives of proper drug therapy, pharmaceutical forms, and routes of drug administration, and can effectively apply this knowledge in clinical activities.
2.an explain the effects of drugs on fundamental physiological events and structures in the body and the mechanisms of these effects.
3.The absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs in the body and the factors affecting these processes.
4.It explains the effects and side effects of the drugs used in treatment.
5.Defines which drugs are used in the treatment of system diseases, comprehends the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of these drugs and applies the dose of these drugs for effective treatment.
6.Gives examples about antibiotics and other chemotherapeutics.
7.Establishes cause and effect relationship about drug abuse and addiction.
8.Uses the knowledge about the use of drugs for prophylaxis and diagnostic purposes and the ability to apply them effectively.
9.Follows the development of new drugs and current issues of pharmacology. Interpret prescription and package insert information.
