Objectives of the Course

To inform about the definition of geriatric rehabilitation and team members in geriatric rehabilitation. To explain normal physiological aging process and physiological changes, to describe geriatric syndromes seen in the elderly and to give information about chronic diseases common in the elderly; to provide an understanding of the applications related to the necessary evaluation and exercise programs for healthy and disabled elderly; to raise awareness of the students about healthy aging and improving the quality of life in the elderly

Course Content

Definition and content of geriatric rehabilitation; team members and their duties in geriatric rehabilitation; normal physiological changes that occur with aging; geriatric syndromes seen in the elderly and common chronic diseases in the elderly; evaluation of healthy elderly, planning of physical activity and exercise program; functional evaluation methods; clinical decision making process and its content; homework, presentation and project work.

Learning Outcomes
1.When the student takes this course: - Have knowledge about the content of geriatric rehabilitation and team members involved in rehabilitation.
2.Explains the normal physiological aging process and the physiological changes caused by aging.
3.To be able to define geriatric syndromes in elderly and to have knowledge about common chronic diseases in elderly.
4.Describes the clinical characteristics observed in healthy and sick elderly individuals and associates them with appropriate physiotherapy and rehabilitation approaches.
5.Learns the physiological responses of geriatric patients in various diseases.
