Objectives of the Course

This course gains knowledge of basic concepts, rules, principles, materials and sources; skills and competences of reaching to scientific and current knowledge, of assessing the accuracy, validity and reliability of the knowledge, of applying first aid with holistic and systematic approach by using hypothetic, evidence-based and practical knowledge, of evaluating the effects of first aid, of proper behaving by respecting human rights and honor, and regulations, professional worth and ethical rules related to first aid.

Course Content

This course includes topics about definition and importance of first aid, disaster management, assessment of scene of accident and patient/victim, removal of victim from scene of accident and transporting, basic life support, bleeding and shock, poisoning, bites, trauma (soft tissue, extremities, abdomen, skull, spine and chest), medical emergencies, burns, exposure to heat and cold, drowning, foreign body inside eye, nose and ear, civil defense, videos and in-class practices related to first aid.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the scientific information on first aid to be provided at the scene in order to save the life of individuals and society and prevent injuries in accidents, disasters and diseases.
2.Gains first aid skills at the scene in order to save the life of individual and society and prevent injuries in accidents, disasters and diseases.
3.Can analyze and apply knowledge and skills related to first aid
4.Understands the importance of first aid for community health and safety.
5.Knows the rules (laws, regulations) and principles regarding the country's disaster and emergency plans.
