Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine the interrelationship between economics and politics within a historical and theoretical framework. The aim is to introduce students to different approaches to political economy and, through these approaches, to develop the ability to analyze contemporary economic and social problems.

Course Content

The course examines theoretical frameworks ranging from classical political economy to Marxist political economy, public choice theory, and institutional approaches. It focuses on the role of the state in the economy, income distribution, globalization, development, crises, and current political economy debates. Students learn to evaluate the interaction between economy and politics in light of historical examples and contemporary events.

Learning Outcomes
1.To examine the strong relationship between economy and politics
2.Students will be able to define and explain the basic concepts and approaches of political economy (classical, Marxist, institutional, etc.).
3.Students will be able to compare different political economy approaches (e.g., classical vs. Marxist) in the context of state, market and society relations.
4.Students will be able to analyze historical and current economic events from a political economy perspective and discuss the interaction of economic institutions with political processes.
5.Students will be able to apply political economy theories to contemporary issues (e.g., income distribution, globalization, crises, climate policies).
