Objectives of the Course

This course aims to give the students basic information on the concept of sociolinguistics and some relevant terms such as language planning, dialects, language change etc.

Course Content

Introduction of the scope of sociolinguistics with regard to basic issues such as language choice in multilingual communities, linguistic varieties, language planning, regional and social dialects, language and gender, language change, cross-cultural communication, language attitudes, etc.
