Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to study the definition, scope, history and basic concepts of discourse analysis.

Course Content

The definition, scope and history of discourse analysis, some basic concepts in discourse analysis such as form-function, sentence -terance, product-process, context-co-text, cohesion, coherence, intentionality, intertextuality, informativity, acceptability, situationality, etc., and the topics such as speech acts, conversational analysis, discourse and society, discourse and language teaching.

1.The students will be able to define the field of discourse analysis and its scope.
2.The students will be able to define the basic concepts and terms in the area of discourse analysis

5.The students wiil be able to evaluate the works of the important discourse analysts and their contributions to the area.
6.The students will be able to explain the relation between discourse analysis and language teaching.
