Objectives of the Course

Goals At the end of the semester Ss will be able to recognize: •patterns in English grammar •sound patterns and structures in spoken English •word structures •sentence structures •semantic characteristics occurring in word, sentence, and more extended discourse levels •organizational structures beyond sentence levels And, will be able to use one of the topics mentioned above in teaching English

Course Content

This class aims to help Ss of ELT understand the major principles of the structure of modern English and enable them to be aware of syntactical, phonological, and semantic characteristics of English. Students will be equipped with the basic knowledge of word type, grammatical function, connections between sentences, and will be informed in detail how sentences are constructed in English.
