Objectives of the Course

Through the read-aloud method, educating EFL pre-service teachers about how to; teach English to students who do not have advanced English reading and writing skills, especially at K-4 levels, prepare lesson plans and activities by associating the Read-Aloud method with the Ministry of Education's English curriculum, use different reading-comprehension and vocabulary teaching/learning strategies, read books out loud in front of a public audience and consider the issues that need to be taken into consideration while reading out loud.

Course Content

The purpose and importance of the oral reading method used in teaching English, books that can be read aloud to K-4 students who do not have advanced English literacy skills, the main award categories given abroad for children's books, associating the aloud reading method with the MEB English curriculum, preparing lesson plans with the oral reading method and learn about strategies to prepare activities to enhance reading-comprehension and vocabulary knowledge, and know points to consider when reading books out loud are included.

2.Knows the considerations when reading aloud to K-4 students.
3.Uses creative voice during reading to convey meaning, character, nuance and dramatic tension to the listener.
4.Uses strategies including storytelling, poetry, puppetry, and other creative ideas while reading books.
5.Creates developmentally and linguistically appropriate language, literature, and literacy activities for K-4 students
6.Knows the strategies that can be used in teaching vocabulary and grammatical structures in oral reading and improving reading comprehension.
7.Knows the major children's book awards and award-winning books.
8.Making connections between the Ministry of Education's English curriculum for oral reading
9.Demonstrates understanding and learning of strategies through developmentally relevant lesson planning.
