Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to gain mastery in the darbuka instrument and to perform the local rhythm patterns and Turkish Art Music "usul"s of 2, 4, 7 and 9-beat Turkish Folk Music works with the darbuka. By giving information about the concept of "usul" in Turkish music, current classifications are explained.

Course Content

Hand, wrist and finger exercises are given by giving information about the darbuka instrument. Sample works are accompanied by appropriate procedural patterns. The concept of "usul" in Turkish music, "usul" classifications of Turkish Folk Music and Turkish Classical Music are explained.
