Objectives of the Course

This course aims to re-read contemporary art through the history and theories of aesthetics and to create a singular discourse by synthesizing different perspectives. Thus, it aims not only to increase the student's curiosity in aesthetic and philosophical theories, but also to make analyzes about the trends, initiatives and policies of contemporary and current art in Turkey and the world.

Course Content

In this course, firstly, the theories and movements of the 20th century will be examined by making a journey from the autonomy of art to the philosophy of aesthetics. Then, it will discuss the possibility of an ethical and political aesthetics in the adventure of contemporary art from modern times to the present, by developing an interdisciplinary discourse thanks to cross-readings of social sciences.
