Course Content

While international migration movements include humanitarian and conscientious dimensions, they also widely affect economic, political and social dynamics. The issue of migration, which has gained great momentum in recent times within this multifaceted network of relations, brings a range of opportunities and challenges at local and global levels. Since Turkey is a country that first emigrated abroad, then became a route for transit passages, and finally received immigration from abroad in recent years, it is in a position to make significant contributions to the current discussions at the global level by producing information on migration and refugee status.Within the scope of this course, the complex dynamics, policies, security concerns, legal frameworks and social impacts that have caused international migration movements from the end of World War II to the present will be examined in detail. Specifically, the immigration-security relationship that emerged after September 11 in the global system, Europe's struggle with the refugee crisis after the Arab Spring, the immigration policies of Turkey, which was mostly affected by the refugee influx after the Arab Spring, and many other subheadings will be examined.
