Objectives of the Course

The aim of the related course is to provide the student with knowledge and skills about the concept of old age and healthy aging, changes in systems with aging, evaluation, characteristics of physical activity in advanced age, drawing the right exercise program for the elderly, and the characteristics and examples of physiotherapy in the elderly.

Course Content

The concept of geriatrontology, the role of the Geriatric Rehabilitation team and the physiotherapist, Theories of aging, epidemiological characteristics of the elderly population, mortality, morbidity, Age-related changes in anatomy, physiology and function - Common pathologies in the elderly, Multi-faceted geriatric evaluation, Versatile geriatric evaluation, Functional exercise training in the elderly (Cardiovascular, muscular endurance and strengthening exercises), effects, and geriatric individual-specific exercise program planning, Pathologies common in old age and physiotherapy (Geriatric physiotherapy in cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal system pathologies), Pathologies common in old age and physiotherapy (Posture and ambulation), Common in old age pathologies and physiotherapy (balance disorders and falling, Common pathologies in old age and physiotherapy (Depression, Dementia, Alzheimer), Group exercises in the elderly, Urinary incontinence, Drug use and function in the elderly, Home care in geriatrics, palliative care and hospice- The role of the physiotherapist Ethical and legal issues in geriatrics
