The first thing we should pay attention to when we consider freedom of the press is, of course, the application of ethical rules and where they overlap with our areas of freedom. Codifying ethical values and self-regulation should be compatible with the logic of media freedom. The fact that our students discuss these issues with case studies and comparative discussions in the lessons will also help them in solving the problems they will encounter in the future.
The first duty of mass media in general and print media in particular is to inform the public and to do so in an accurate manner. This function is also a requirement of journalistic ethics and news ethics. While the proper fulfillment of these two functions helps the formation and establishment of democratic consciousness, the failure to fulfill the functions of informing and accurately informing can damage the culture of democracy and thus the structure of democratic society.
