This course aims to teach the historical development of Christianity, its sacred texts, founding figures, fundamental doctrines, denominational structure, and theological debates from a scholarly perspective. By examining the early Christian period, the formation of the New Testament, Pauline theology, the Church Fathers, medieval theology, the Reformation movements, modern Christian thought, and contemporary debates, students are encouraged to evaluate Christianity within its historical and theological integrity.
The history of the emergence of early Christianity; the Jewish background of the Jesus movement; the formation of the New Testament writings; Paul's missionary activities and their influence on Christian doctrine. The debates of the early councils; Trinitarian Christology; the formation of the Church's understanding and the sacred textual tradition. The Church Fathers' era; medieval scholastic theology; the institutionalization of the Catholic Church; monastic movements and liturgical structure. The Reformation; Martin Luther's theological critiques; the emergence of the Protestant tradition and the transformation of modern Christian thought. Modern Catholicism; Orthodoxy; Protestantism; New Christian movements; missionary activities; Vatican policies and contemporary theological debates.
