One of the most important functions of education is the transmission of culture. The history of education examines the ways and methods through which culture is transmitted to future generations. The historical foundations of education provide an opportunity to learn the historical background and development of the system, structure, operation, and basic practices that exist in education today. This course aims to explain the development and transformation of general education since antiquity. It examines the change and transformation of education periodically within the context of the history of thought. From the period when the concept of education became synonymous with religious education, the transformation in education and the shaping of religious education courses within education are discussed within the historical context of the history of thought.
This is an interdisciplinary course that examines the historical development of educational systems from antiquity to the present and the transformation of religious education within this process. It critically examines paradigm shifts in educational approaches at significant turning points in the history of thought and the adaptation of religious education to these changes. It provides a comparative analysis of the positioning of religious education in the educational systems of different civilizations. It evaluates the transition from periods when the concept of education was identified with religious education to secular educational approaches within its historical context. It critically discusses the historical foundations and current approaches to the place, method, and content of religious education in modern educational systems.
