The aim of this course is to practically teach qualitative research methods, which are generally used in social sciences, in the field of agricultural economics and to provide the necessary knowledge about the analysis method. In addition to establishing the basic concepts of qualitative research, determining research questions and sampling, acquiring data collection and analysis skills, it is aimed to provide students with competence in reporting and presenting analysis results.
Qualitative method is a research method generally used in social sciences and sometimes in different disciplines. This method involves the collection, analysis and interpretation of qualitative data (verbal and visual) as opposed to quantitative data (numeric). Qualitative method is a research approach and choice that involves collecting and analyzing qualitative data to provide an understanding of events, processes, relationships and connections .Qualitative method allows the researcher(s) to think deeply, to become aware of complex relationships, connections and processes, and to examine in depth the issues of human behavior (reactions, cultural norms, traditions and customs, etc.) and social structure. The method includes data collection, analysis, theoretical foundations, sample selection, in-depth understanding, establishing connections and contexts, reliability and consistency, etc. As important as it is, it plays a role that supports and even constructs the quantitative method within the mixed method. This method is used in social sciences (economics, agricultural economics, finance, etc.), education, health, anthropology, communication, etc. It is used in many different ways and even across disciplines.
