the aim of this course is to enable the graduate students to understand the genetic and statistical principles of identification and use major genes or Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) with large effect in animal breeding.

Detection of major gene effects-1: molecular genetic methods 9. Linkage and methods of gene mapping. mapping designs (F2, backcross, halfsib, etc.) 10. Genotyping: use of phenotypic criteria or genetic markers 11. Contribution of major genes to genetic improvement 12. Transfer of major genes: use of gene transfer technology or introgression plans 13. Industry use of major genes 14. Importance of major genes in animal breeding programs of Turkey
