Learning Turkish Folklore Studies

Course Content

To study bases, sources, sphere and purpose of folklore; its relationships with other disciplines, the emergence of folklore in Western history, methods of folklore studies, different approaches in folklore.

Week 1 - Theoretical
The background of folklore; sources, boundaries and objectives.
Week 2 - Theoretical
The relationship of folkore with other disciplines. The relationship of folklore with sociology, ethnology and anthropology.

The relationship of folklore with literature, history, philosophy.
Week 4 - Theoretical
The relationship of folklore and ethnography, linguistics, and psychology.

Introduction to theory and methods of folklore
