Course Content

The religion, which has a very important place in the life of mankind throughout the history of civilization, has prepared the ground for the birth of different cult beliefs. The polytheistic belief structure, which the ancient societies developed with a fatalist understanding, demonstrated itself through the cult, which is the expression of realistic and concrete worship. The cult, which contains basic elements such as the worship of the gods, the gifts of sacrifice, ritual rituals, festivals held in honor of gods, is seen as the way of expressing beliefs against the sacred forces. To give an example; After the Hellenistic period, the Emperor cult, which was expelled from the seeds and gained a different dimension in the Roman Empire period, developed especially in Asia Minor with the influence of the Roman Empire domination. The divination of the Roman emperers, the establishment of temples in their honour, and the realization of the ritual of sacrifice have gained a new quality to the cult tradition. In this context, the religious lives of ancient Hellen and Roman civilizations constituting Eskibatı civilizations will be examined.
