Objectives of the Course

Main objective of this course is to teach the period of aproximately 3500 years that cover Ancient Greek and Roman history to post graduate students.

Course Content

In the scientific meaning, the modern concept of “the Ancient West” defines the Ancient Greek and Roman cultures which was formed in a period from 1900s BC, counting the Mycenaean Period, to the beginning of 7 th century AD. In this context, the emergence and development processes of the civilizations of the people of Eskiwest, which constitute these cultures with Hellen culture and Roman culture, will be examined.

1.Being able to grasp the historical period of approximately 3500 years which covers Ancient Greek and Roman history.
2.Being able to understand Crete, cradle of discussed civilizations.
3.Being able to grasp that Ancient Greek Civilization was developed by the Achaeans.
4.Being able to learn monarchic Hellenistic Kingdoms which were founded after Alexander the Great.
5.Being able to grasp how Rome became a Mediterranean Empire in the course of time.
