Objectives of the Course

This course examines the history of the women's rights movement in the Ottoman and Republican periods and analyzes the struggle of women's rights in the 20th and 21st centuries. A historical analysis will be used to understand how the women's rights movement began and evolved and divided among different groups of women. A special emphasis will be made on the history of the women's rights movement in Turkey.

Course Content

In this course, the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey on women's rights and women's movement seeks to explain by comparing different waves of feminism. The United Nations, especially the contribution of international organizations will be discussed in more detail and it will be a special emphasis on women's rights movement in Turkey.
