Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course; 1. To give graduate students basic concepts and facts about city history research 2. To give information about city and urbanization in the past

Course Content

Concepts of city and urbanization; political, social and economic life in cities; purpose and scope in urban history research; agriculture, port, mining, industry, military center, bureaucracy, cities of science, art and culture; resources in urban history research.

1.Gain scientific perspectives on Ottoman state and society structure.
2.Gains the ability of research and analysis on Ottoman state and society structure.
3.Student knows the basic features of Islamic and Ottoman cities.
4.The student knows how to use resources such as Ottoman court records in their research.
5.The student will have a wide bibliography about Ottoman city history.
