Objectives of the Course

The course explores the role played by identity, memory and culture in causing differences that come out in the basis of religious, ethnic, cultural, sexual, and so on between the individuals and communities as well as identity demands and conflicts. In particular, globalization brought changes occur in societies and consequently increasing the differentiated identities, a thriving multi-faceted identities/cultures and lifestyles will be checking out.

Course Content

Course materials will address the question of how identity/memory/culture are constituted, as well as aspects of identity such as race, ethnicity, gender, religion, class, and nationalism and the issues like re-identification or identification of differences or the rise of identities.

Learning Outcomes
1.Understanding the main concepts and discussions about identity and culture
2.To be able to define and understand the basic debates and theories about the concepts of identity and culture in the modern and postmodern era.
3.To have an advanced level of knowledge in identity and culture and to be able to relate it to current social theory.
4.To be able to comprehend the changing nature and change dynamics of the phenomena and concepts studied from the modern era to the postmodern revolution.
5.To improve the ability to demonstrate a critical and objective approach in analyzing concepts of identity and culture.
