Objectives of the Course

The main purpose of this course will be to examine the effects of education in a social context. Education is a social phenomenon and, like other social phenomena, it emerged from social life. Education, like other social phenomena, can change according to time and place and can have a compelling effect on individuals. In short, it is possible to see all the features of social phenomena in the phenomenon of education, and there is an interaction between the phenomenon of education and other social phenomena. Based on this point, our course aims to focus on the effects of education on the social and cultural structure.

Course Content

Topics such as education, social functions of education, social mobility, social stratification, equality of opportunity, the effects of politics and media on education will be examined.

1.Understanding of concepts such as education, culture, social change, social mobility and equality of opportunity and current academic discussions.
2.To be able to evaluate the discussions about education and its social effects.
3.Acquiring the ability to conduct sociological research on education, culture, social change, social mobility and equality of opportunity debates.
4.To be able to understand the effects of transformations in education on the social structure.
5.Critical evaluation of debates on education, culture, social change, social mobility and equality of opportunity.
