Objectives of the Course

The main aim of this course is the family, which is one of the social institutions; will be examined in many aspects sociologically. Family is the smallest unit of society, its core. As a social unit, which is as old as human history, the family institution has undergone structural and formal changes by being affected by various changes. Based on this point, our course aims to focus on the place and change of the family in the social context.

Course Content

Topics such as family, social functions of the family, family and social transformation, marriage and divorce, kinship, women and children, power relations within the family will be examined.

1.Comprehension of concepts such as family, social change, marriage and divorce, kinship, power relations within the family and current academic debates.
2.To be able to evaluate the discussions on family and social transformation.
3.Acquiring the ability to conduct sociological research on family, social change, marriage and divorce, kinship, and family power relations.
4.To be able to comprehend the effects of the transformations in the family on the social structure.
5.Evaluation of the discussions within the framework of family, social change, marriage and divorce, kinship, power relations within the family with a critical perspective.
