Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to give the students the knowledge the sources of variation in DNA and to learn how to use this information in experimental research.

Course Content

A new era began with the inventions of polymerase chain reaction in molecular genetics. In this course the variation sources, polymorphism and mutation separation, basics of PCR technique, design of simple PCR reactions, indirect mutation analysis techniques, direct mutation analysis techniques, fragment analysis for phylogenetic studies, Real- Time PCR technique will be explained. The student will learn the localization and structure of the genes of interest by using genome databases, be able to design primers for PCR and / or RT- PCR, and where to start designing genetic experiments for their own research.
