Objectives of the Course

1. To draw attention to the oral and written Turkish folk culture and their place and importance in the field of language education / mother tongue education 2. To comprehend the relationship of folk culture with language and nation bond, to draw attention to cultural transfer through mother tongue education 3. SOKUM (Intangible Cultural Heritage / UNESCO - To draw attention to the importance of recording the oral culture transmitted in the mother tongue in the context of the Intangible Cultural Heritage/ICH) for language education 4. To make the students comprehend the importance of the preservation and transfer of the oral culture transmitted in the mother tongue 5. New research questions with the theme of “INTERNATIONAL-LANGUAGE-CULTURAL EDUCATION”, To contribute to the production of project proposals.

Course Content

Language - Communication, The Nature and General Characteristics of Language, Turkish Teaching, Definition, importance, transformation, change of culture, folk culture, language education/mother tongue education, Basic Skills of Language – Language-Word; Language-Culture Relationship, the general language of Turkish characteristics, The Role of Language in Cultural Transfer, Relationship between Language Education and Intangible Cultural Heritage, Oral Traditions and Expressions.

Learning Outcomes
1.Language Definition Communication ? Understands the nature and general characteristics of language, the definition of language-culture relationship, its importance, cultural change and transformation.
2.Learns about the concepts of folk culture, folk philosophy, folk life, folk teaching language education. Distinguish between tangible and intangible cultural values. Comprehends the general aims of SOKÜM and its relationship with language education.

4.Learns to approach Turkish folk culture holistically.
5.Develops the ability to compile about oral culture in the field (in the context of SOKÜM staff) and can apply compilation and research techniques.
6.Understands that the identification, preservation and transmission of Turkish folk culture and oral culture, which is a valuable heritage, is essential in a national and universal context.
7.It examines the situation of Folk Culture in the increasingly urbanized new context, identifies and interprets the changes, developments and cultural transfer within the context itself, and associates all these with the field of "SOKUM-LANGUAGE-CULTURAL EDUCATION".
8.It can produce new research questions and project proposals with the theme of “INTERNAL-LANGUAGE-CULTURAL EDUCATION”.
