Course Content

In the Ottoman Empire, resettlement movements were carried out in various forms. Some of these were implemented through the resettlement methods employed by the government, while others were conducted by voluntary individuals or organizations. Among those pursued by the state were methods such as the establishment of vakıfs (charitable trusts), exile, and guarding passes (derbentçilik). Voluntary initiatives, on the other hand, included activities led by dervishes and the religious lodges (tekkes) and retreats (zaviyeler) they established. In this course, as mentioned above, the resettlement policies implemented by the Ottoman Empire will be examined.
