Objectives of the Course

Political anthropology, a study that examines the methods by which people develop their management abilities, traces its origins to contract theories. These theories primarily examine the origins of the state by analyzing the state of nature (a period without a state) and civil society (a period with a state). The objective of the Political Anthropology course is to comprehensively analyze and explore the political systems in both primitive/simple and contemporary/complex societies. This includes studying the dynamics of change and transformation within these systems, taking into account historical processes, geographical conditions, and socio-economic and ideological structures.

Course Content

The Political Anthropology course will begin by examining the historical context and fundamental methodologies of the field. It will then go into the analysis of political systems in both simple and complex human cultures, focusing on their structures. This study aims to examine pre-state societies and their political functioning, focusing on the emergence of the concept of governance and the transition from stateless societies to states. It will also compare and contrast the political structures and functions in these societies.
