Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach students the history of the development of capitalism in the Western world and of the expansion of commodity production to the other regions of the world, beginning with the Renaissance. The course focuses on the modes, customs and traditions of the lives of people in early modern and modern Europe.

Course Content

European social and economic history will be covered chronologically.

1.1Will be able to discuss the history of capitalism’s development in the Western world.
2.Will be able to describe major concepts and ideas, such as exploration, discovery, classical liberal economy, and colonization.
3.On successful completion of this course students will: Develop an awareness of the interface between European history and the Ottoman world.
