Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to teach the Ottoman demography from the classical period to the 19th century and the modern censuses startşng from the era of II. Mahmud.

Course Content

In this course, the history of the demographical characteristics of the Ottoman Empire will be analysed in details. The major works on this topic will also be examined through the lectures. The censuses and the effects of the Ottoman demography on the socio-economic structure of the empire will be analysed.
