Objectives of the Course

Discussing infections and their causes in general and teaching the basic principles of protecting healthy and chronically ill elderly people from infections.

Course Content

There is a decrease in the immune system's function in old age. As a result of the effects of chronic diseases that are more prevalent in older ages on the immune system, elderly individuals are more susceptible to infections. The symptoms of infectious diseases in the elderly are also different from other people. Clinical pictures are unusual and silent and may not show obvious symptoms until they reach life-threatening levels. In this respect, it is important to discuss how infections can be reduced in the elderly and how infections can be protected.
