Characteristics of the old age period, identification of problems specific to this period. It is aimed to recognize counseling issues for the elderly and their caregivers, if any, and to teach them how to provide appropriate counseling.
Old age has its own characteristics that distinguish it from other ages. Early, middle and advanced age periods may show different characteristics. For this reason, consultancy issues and consultancy approaches should be created specific to the period. Physical changes and disabilities, chronic diseases and social life seen in the elderly affect the quality of life of the elderly. Counseling topics should be related to common health and social problems and aimed at improving the quality of life that decreases due to functional disabilities. In healthy elderly people, the aim should be to maintain health and well-being. During counseling, it is necessary to use communication skills effectively and manage communication problems. In addition, it is important to plan and implement the support that can be provided in special situations such as end of life.
