Objectives of the Course

In the last twenty years, as with in many areas, there have been significant changes in politics this. The main aim of this course is to re-examine or rethink the relationship between society and the politics. For this end we will be focusing on the changing nature of politics. As well as function, extend, and structure of politics will be investigated. At the main time we will be looking at the themes, concepts that many observers noticed such as new right and its inseparable component neoliberalism, postmodern thinking, and risk society and erosion of Trust.

Course Content

Re-thinking politics in the 21st century; The consequences of rising new right and neo-liberalism; Post-modern philosophy and the problems of the breaking of cultural authority; The problem of finding alternatives; Re-thinking the political actor.

Learning Outcomes
1.To have an advanced knowledge of society and politics. Also to grasp the main themes, concepts and theories that the course requires.
2.Grasp the social theories of society and politics at the 21th century and ability to connect them to the wider contemporary social theory;
3.Investigate and understand the significant changes occurred in the last twenty years and to grasp what these changes mean for the society and politics at the beginning of the 21th century;
4.Grasp the changing nature and dynamics of society and to investigate how they will affect the political action;
5.An ability to critically evaluate issues at hand and to have an objective approach;
