They argue that risk society and uncertainties have become the most important characteristics that define today's societies. The exaggerated risk perception and efforts to control risks, especially since the 1990s, have revealed many attitudes and behaviours in the society, such as excessive scepticism, avoidance of many natural and social risks, and fear in the face of risks. The aim of this course is to examine the discussions of risks, fears and uncertainties that have arisen frequently in our country in recent years, and to provide students with advanced knowledge in this field and to gain the ability to transfer this knowledge to their own research.
The risks, fears and insecurities that have emerged in all areas of social life in recent years indicate large-scale sociological transformations. New concepts and theories have arisen to make sense of the social insecurity, rumours and conspiracy theories about natural disasters such as forest fires, floods, earthquakes and many other issues that have recently emerged in this direction.
