Radiotherapy, cancer treatment with high-energy ionizing radiation, is an integral part of the multidisciplinary oncological approach. In this context, this course aims to give information about the principles of radiation therapy, the ultrastructure and staff of radiotherapy clinics, the devices used in radiotherapy, the use of radiotherapy with other cancer treatment methods, and the acute and late side effects of radiation cancer treatment.
Biological fundamentals of radiotherapy, dose-time-volume relationship in radiotherapy, basic radiotherapy physics, structure and staff of a radiotherapy clinic, radiotherapy devices, principles of radioprotection in radiation oncology, effects of radiotherapy on normal tissue and tumor tissue, site-related radiotherapy applications (organs and system), modern radiotherapy techniques, specific radiotherapy applications (craniospinal axis, whole-body / half body irradiation, STR, brachytherapy), the combination of radiotherapy with surgery-chemotherapy and immunotherapy, acute and side effects related to radiotherapy, palliation ad supportive care in radiotherapy, emergencies in radiotherapy will be discussed.
