Objectives of the Course

To enable students acquire and develop skills at reading and writing by abiding CEFR standards at A2 and B1 levels

Course Content

To practice in effective reading and comprehension on various topics using reading methods and strategies . To practice writing short paragraphs on various topics To communicate effectively in written English using different types of paragrahs To have a tool pack of vocabulary To practice vocabulary in context

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
Meeting and introducing the scope of the course and course materials.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Introduction to reading and definition of simple sentence.Reading and understanding short paragraphs / texts about introducing the student, a group (family or friends),or a place.To construct simple sentences about the topic mentioned
Week 3 - Theoretical
What makes a good sentence ? Introduction to parts of speech (nouns,pronouns,prepositions,verbs, adjectives …) Recognizing the accurate and complete sentences throughout a sample paragraph or text and construction of complete and accurate sentences.
Week 4 - Theoretical
What are the common paragraph features? Organizing a paragraph with clear and easy to read and understand sentences. Indented and block paragraph forms. Reading and understanding sample paragraphs related and doing classroom practices to write a paragraph.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Capitalization and Punctuation . Combining sentences using conjunctions ( and, but, or, bacause, so and,so that ).Reading and anlyzing sample texts related to the topic.
Week 6 - Theoretical
dentifying and understanding the topic sentence, main idea , supporting details and concluding sentence in a text and writing a paragraph / short text with a topic sentence, main idea supporting details and conclusion
Week 7 - Theoretical
Using reading strategies. 1. Skimming 2. Scanning . Writing a descriptive paragraph using adjectives in descriptions.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Extra practices of skimming and scanning a text / short stoy. Writing a paragraph using brainstorming and listing techniques .Combining sentences with conjunctions to show reason and result) and wring a cause-effect paragraph.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Text organization and coherence such as enumeration, classification, comparison – contrast and time order. Writing a Compare-Contrast paragraph
Week 10 - Theoretical
Extensive Reading and vocabulary enhancing practises.Using linking words ( After,Before, Then, When /While) to write a Biography .
Week 11 - Theoretical

Week 12 - Theoretical
Reading narrative text samples about past events or experiences and writing about personal experiences using linking words to show time order.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Identfying the inferences and drawing conclusion. Writing impressions concerning contemporary social issues such as crime, using the social media, online shopping…etc.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Reading sample texts about job advertisements, flling in an application form. Writing e-mail and resume
