Objectives of the Course

Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles, and application areas of labor law, and to equip them with the essential knowledge and skills related to the legal framework governing employer–employee relations, employment contracts, working conditions, and occupational health and safety. Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to be able to evaluate legal issues that may arise in working life and interpret the relevant labor legislation within appropriate legal contexts.

Course Content

This course covers the concepts of law and labor law, the sources and fundamental principles of labor law, the formation and types of employment contracts, the rights and obligations of the parties, working and rest periods, wages and remuneration, occupational health and safety, and the termination of employment contracts together with their legal consequences.

2.	Defines the core concepts of labor law, including employee, employer, workplace, and employment contract, and evaluates the legal relationships among them.
3.	Interprets the legal processes related to the formation, types, rights and obligations of the parties, and termination of employment contracts.
4.	Analyzes the legal provisions governing wages, working hours, and rest periods in the context of working life.
5.	Evaluates the fundamental obligations and practices related to occupational health and safety and interprets legal issues that may arise in professional life.

Week 1 - Theoretical

Concept and Functions of Law: Definition, purpose, role, and functions of law within the framework of social order rules.

Week 2 - Theoretical

Concept and Historical Development of Labor Law: Emergence, development process, and contemporary significance of labor law.

Week 3 - Theoretical

Sources of Labor Law: Constitution, legislation, international conventions, judicial decisions, and other legal sources.

Week 4 - Theoretical

Fundamental Concepts of Labor Law: Employee, employer, workplace, subcontractor, employer representative, and related concepts.

Week 5 - Theoretical

Employment Contract: Definition, essential elements, and types of employment contracts.

Week 6 - Theoretical

Obligations Arising from the Employment Contract: Rights and obligations of employees and employers.

Week 7 - Theoretical

Wages and Types of Remuneration: Protection of wages, methods of payment, and wage-related claims.

Week 8 - Theoretical

Theoretical Working Time Regulations: Standard working hours, overtime work, extended working hours, and night work.

Week 9 - Theoretical

Rest Periods: Break periods, weekly rest days, national and public holidays, and annual paid leave.

Week 10 - Theoretical

Termination of Employment Contracts: Valid grounds, just causes, and termination procedures.

Week 11 - Theoretical

Circumstances Resulting in the Termination of Employment Contracts Other Than Dismissal.

Week 12 - Theoretical

Legal Consequences of the Termination of Employment Contracts: Severance pay, notice compensation, and other employee receivables.

Week 13 - Theoretical

Occupational Health and Safety: Fundamental principles, employer and employee obligations, occupational accidents, and occupational diseases.
