Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to develop students' manual skills, creativity, and aesthetic perspectives; to enable them to become familiar with different craft techniques and to create original designs through practice. The course also aims to support students' awareness of recycling, fine motor skills, problem-solving, productivity, and artistic expression abilities.

Course Content

The course covers fundamental design principles, materials used in crafts and safe usage rules, production with recycled materials, paper art, wood painting, ceramic painting, macrame, rope art, jewelry design, decorative object production, fabric bag decorating, terrarium making, and creative do-it-yourself (DIY) applications. Throughout the course, students will design various products through individual and group work, and at the end of the term, they will present their works to evaluate their creative production processes.

1.It explains basic design principles and different craft techniques and uses them in the application processes.
2.They design unique handcrafted products by using various tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately.
3.It develops creative and functional designs while adhering to recycling and sustainability principles.
4.In handicrafts, they produce individual projects by using an aesthetic perspective, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking abilities.
5.They present and evaluate the design and handicraft products they have prepared, and conduct self-assessment regarding the production process.

Week 1 - Theoretical
The history of handicrafts, basic design principles, material introduction, and safe working practices.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Designing decorative pen holders, plant pots, or desktop organizers from waste materials.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Preparing origami figures and decorative paper ornaments.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Decorating MDF or wooden objects with acrylic paints.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Creating personalized designs using fabric paints and stencils.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Making bracelets, necklaces, or keychains using beads, string, and wire.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Making a macrame keychain or wall hanging.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Students create and present an original design using their chosen technique.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Preparing and decorating decorative or scented candles.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Creative painting of ready-made ceramic objects or natural stones.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Creating a terrarium in a glass container using succulents or natural materials.
