Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to master the basic rules of the game by correctly learning the chessboard, pieces, and their movements. By the end of the training, students will have grasped basic checkmate patterns, simple tactics, and opening principles, enabling them to play a conscious and rule-abiding chess match. The course also aims to develop students' strategic thinking skills.

Course Content

The course covers the chessboard, pieces, tournament rules, and notation. Basic concepts, win/draw situations, the concept of checkmate, basic checkmates, and sections of the game are explained.

1.	Learns to correctly position and arrange the pieces on the chessboard.
2.	Fully understands all piece movements and specific rules (castling, en passant, promotion).
3.	Applies the concept of checkmate, distinguishing between wins and draws.
4.	Masters general game and tournament rules.
5.	Generates appropriate moves for the beginning, development, and conclusion of a chess match.
6.	Knows to use a chess clock and write chess notation.

Week 1 - Theoretical

Characteristics of the chessboard and pieces.

Week 2 - Theoretical

Tournament rules, notation, and the use of a chess clock.

Week 3 - Theoretical

Pawn movement, capturing pieces, and special cases.

Week 4 - Theoretical

Knight movement, capturing pieces, and special cases (Verbal Examination)

Week 5 - Theoretical

Bishop movement and capturing pieces.

Week 6 - Theoretical

Rook movement and capturing pieces.

Week 7 - Theoretical

Queen movement and capturing pieces.

Week 8 - Theoretical

King movement, capturing pieces, and special situations. (MIDTERM EXAM)

Week 9 - Theoretical

The concept of checkmate and simple checkmates. (ASSIGNMENT)

Winning and drawing situations in chess.

Week 11 - Theoretical

The fundamentals of openings.

Week 12 - Theoretical

Middlegame and piece exchanges, double threat, fork and skewer concepts.
