Objectives of the Course

The aim is to teach students the basic principles of fishing; to provide them with technical competence in equipment use, knot techniques, and fish species. In addition, it is to instill a culture of environmentally friendly fishing by raising awareness about the protection of marine and inland water ecosystems, sustainable fishing ethics, and amateur fishing legislation.

Course Content

The course covers the basic structure of aquatic ecosystems, fish biology, and behavioral patterns, as well as teaching proper equipment selection. During the training, students learn basic fishing knots and various fishing techniques (LRF, Spin, Surf, etc.). Current legislation in Turkey, fishing bans, species conservation awareness, and ecosystem sustainability form the core focus of the course

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
The history of fishing, amateur fishing in the world and in Turkey.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Senses, feeding habits and habitats of target fish.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Rod selection according to species (LRF, Spin, Surf) and reel mechanisms.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Monofilament, fluorocarbon and braided lines; hook structures and numbering. (Quiz)
Week 5 - Theoretical
Hook tying, joining knots and swivel knots.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Natural baits, artificial lures (jigs, poppers, silicone) and action-giving.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Reading bottom structure, current direction, wind and pressure on fish behavior.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Fishing in inland waters (lakes, dams, rivers), target species and tackle used. (MIDTERM EXAM)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Coastal and boat fishing techniques, seasonal fishing specific to the Aegean Sea.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Regional fishing grounds and dominant species in these regions.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Amateur Fishing Regulations, limits and prohibitions. (Verbal Examination)
Week 12 - Theoretical
Ecosystem protection, combating invasive species (Pufferfish, Lionfish, etc.).
Week 13 - Theoretical
Adverse weather conditions, equipment accidents, and safety precautions in nature.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Technology and Digital Solutions in Fishing (Sonar, GPS, and Mobile Application Usage)
