The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge about the causes and impacts of climate change and the methods used to combat climate change; to explain the reciprocal relationship between climate change and agricultural production; and to enable students to evaluate the effects of climate change on crop production, livestock production, soil, water resources and food security. The course also aims to introduce students to climate-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices, Türkiye’s climate change policies and action plans, and climate change adaptation methods in agriculture.
This course covers the concept of climate change, the greenhouse effect, greenhouse gases, the causes and global impacts of climate change, climate change mitigation and adaptation policies, and the effects of climate change in Türkiye. The effects of climate change on crop production, livestock production, water resources, soil and agricultural food security are examined. The course also addresses greenhouse gas emissions resulting from agricultural activities, climate-friendly agricultural practices, sustainable agriculture approaches, Türkiye’s climate change strategies and action plans, adaptation practices in agriculture, examples of good practices and emerging agricultural technologies.
