Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to evaluate the concept of popular culture in its historical and institutional dimensions, to analyze the production and consumption processes of popular culture in the media and communication sectors, and to effectively use the elements of popular culture in public relations, advertising, brand management, and digital media applications.

Course Content

Definition of popular culture, its historical development, the culture industry, consumer culture, the relationship between media and popular culture, social media phenomena, digital culture, the use of popular culture in brand communication, youth culture, the cultural effects of fashion, music, cinema, television and digital platforms, the application of popular culture in public relations campaigns and the examination of current examples.
