Objectives of the Course

This course aims to provide knowledge of basic surveying concepts, instruments and field measurement techniques, and enables students to perform angle, distance and coordinate measurements using tachymeter, theodolite and electronic total station.

Course Content

Definition of cartography and cadastre, measurement units and coordinate systems, measurement errors, simple surveying tools and length measurement, prismatic measurement, tachymeter and theodolite, electronic total station, horizontal and vertical angle measurement, error calculations, coordinate and area calculations, field applications.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Explains fundamental concepts of cartography and cadastre; performs scale and unit calculations.
2.Identifies simple surveying instruments, performs distance measurements and evaluates results.
3.Performs horizontal and vertical angle measurements with total station and calculates definitive directions.
4.Classifies measurement errors, calculates root mean square error and relative error, and interprets results.
5.Sets up total station in field applications, collects measurements and evaluates the obtained data.
