Objectives of the Course

This course aims to give general information about health economics and to give ability to interpret and manage health policies. Understanding the role of health economics in general economic knowledge, contribution of health economics on general economic, analysis of supply-demand in health service and to gain the ability to solve emerging problems.

Course Content

Covers general information and analysis on the health economy and politics. Economic definitions, general economics information, health economics and scope; basic features of health markets and health service; demand and supply analysis in health services; economic evaluation techniques in health sector, health expenditures and development; healthcare finances and features; health financing methods in advanced countries; historical development of health services in Turkey; financing of health expenditures in Turkey; healthcare financing problems in Turkey; definition of health policy and determinants of health policy; process management in health policy; economic structure of the countries and health politics, international health organizations and operating mechanisms; country comparisons in terms of basic health services.

Learning Outcomes
1.Know the features of health economics and services and make a general interpretation of health economics.
2.By learning economic assessments in the health sector, He / she can better evaluate expenditures.
3.Knowing the historical development of health services in Turkey, he / she can evaluate the financing of expenditures and the problems of financing.
4.They can learn the definition of health policy, determine the determinants of policies and manage their processes.
5.Knowing the economic structure and health policies of countries, He / she learn international health institutions and their working mechanisms.
6.He / she can make country comparisons in terms of basic health services.
